Children and Youth Program

The joy of a family musical holiday is that parents can make music with other adults, while their children are stimulated in a fine arts program tailored to their age. When classes are over, families can enjoy relaxation time together.

Children's Program

The Children’s Program is for children ages 6 to 10. Children entering the program may be 5½ years old as long as they are turning 6 within the calendar year and have completed their Kindergarten year. Those who are 10 and are entering Grade 5 are still in the Children's Program.

Three qualified faculty members will work with your children from 8:30am to 1:00pm from Monday to Saturday of music camp week. The children will then put on a performance for all to attend on the Saturday afternoon of music camp week. Two faculty members are qualified elementary teachers with specialties in music; a third faculty member is an elementary teacher with a specialty in art.

The Children's Program incorporates the use of Orff instruments and rhythm instruments with singing and movement. If a child has a specific instrument that they are learning, it could possibly be worked into the Children's Program, at the discretion of the faculty. Each morning the children will also participate in a variety of art activities. Each afternoon from 4:00pm to 5:30pm there will be a game outside with a faculty member. If children do not choose to participate in the game, then they are the responsibility of the parents.

All children must be accompanied by an adult at music camp. The children are supervised from 8:30am to 1:00pm and (for those participating in the afternoon game) from 4:00pm to 5:30pm daily.

Youth Program

The Youth Program is for youth ages 11 to 13. Youth entering the program may be 10½ years old as long as they are turning 11 within the calendar year and have completed Grade 5. In general, the program is for students entering Grades 6, 7 and 8. Some 14-year-olds may be ready to join the adult program; others may want to remain in the Youth Program for one more year.

The youth will be involved in four sessions between 8:30am and 1:00pm from Monday to Friday of music camp week, and they will perform in a concert at the end of the week. The specialty youth sessions offered this year are Guitar, Musical Theatre, Vocal Jazz and Percussion, taught by Elliot Langford, Chris King, Amy Stephen and Vern Griffiths. The youth also have the option of participating in any of the adult sessions instead of one or more of the youth sessions. Each afternoon from 4:00pm to 5:30pm there will be a game outside with a faculty member. If youth do not choose to participate in the game, then they are the responsibility of the parents.

All youth must be accompanied by an adult at music camp. Youths will be supervised from 8:30am to 1:00pm while they are in a session. They will be moving from session to session unsupervised. For those who are participating in the afternoon game, they will be supervised from 4:00pm to 5:30pm.
